Leisure Studies - NCEA Level 1
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr R. Akroyd
This course is for students who do not fulfill the requirements of a full academic program but have an interest and ability in sport and are serious about achieving at Level 1.
While many of the topics covered will be of a practical nature there is a classroom component. Assistance will be given on the academic requirements for the assessments. All credits are Achievement Standards.
Course Overview
Term 1
AS90962 - Participate actively in a variety of physical activities and explain factors that influence own participation
5 credits Internal
This assessment requires students to participate in a range of different activities with a high level of enthusiasm and effort. Students will be asked to reflect, through a series of logs, on how these activities impacted their well being, either positively or negatively.
Term 2
AS9096 - Demonstrate self management strategies and describe the effects on participation in physical activity.
3 credits Internal
This assessment requires the student to demonstrate self management strategies as they participate in a range of physical activities. Students are required to describe how those strategies affected their participation.
Term 3
AS90967 - Demonstrate strategies to improve the performance of a physical activity and describe the outcomes.
3 credits Internal (Literacy credits)
This assessment requires students to complete an activity (Volleyball) .They will analyse their performance then plan strategies to improve this . They will describe the outcomes.
Term 4
AS90964 Demonstrate quality movement in the performance of a physical activity.
3 credits Internal
This assessment requires students to meet key performance indicators for Volleyball over the time of the unit.
