Course Description

Does driving a jet boat, ziplining, rafting, surfing , 4 wheel driving light up your eyes. Adventure tourism needs you. Do you love talking to people, fancy exotic locations, speak another language, dance, act, juggle? There are hotels and cruise ships waiting for you.
Tourism offers you the opportunity to learn about a variety of job opportunities in this industry, the different types of tourists and their specific needs, the business end of tourism, and be introduced to the 5 key tourism regions in the world and their popular attractions.
This course offers units towards the National Certificate in Tourism (Level 2) which may help you gain entry into tourism training and a career in tourism. You will also have the opportunity to go on a field trip to an awesome NZ Tourist Destination.
Course Overview
Term 1
This term we will be learning to:
- Identify work roles within each of the tourism sectors
- Describe skills, knowledge, personal attributes, and personal presentation requirements of work roles in tourism.
- Evaluate self in relation to a work role in tourism
Term 2
This term we will be learning to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the components of tourism
- Demonstrate knowledge of an 'origin-destination' model of tourism
- Describe the nature of a New Zealand tourism business.
- locate regions, countries, and gateway cities
- identify the significance of regions and countries of the world as tourism generating markets and host destinations
- Identify and describe tourist attractions, activities and events
- Describe the characteristics of a specified country as a tourist destination
Term 3
This term we will be learning to:
- Describe inbound tourism to New Zealand
- Describe domestic tourism within New Zealand
- Describe characteristics of New Zealand as a tourist destination.
Term 4
This term we will be learning to:
- Describe the characteristics and needs of tourists
- Describe international tourist to New Zealand
