Fashion Design - NCEA Level 1
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms M. Hockly
This is a design-based course that provides opportunities for students to develop their skills. Emphasis is given to creating innovative textile, fashion, or interior design solutions while learning about sustainability issues caused by Textiles and their effect on the environment. Whilst there are sewing options throughout the year, this is not the main focus of the course.
Course Overview
Term 1
A.S 91044 Undertake brief development to address a need or opportunity.
A.S 91046 Use design ideas to produce a conceptual design for an outcome to address a brief.
For students who are struggling with achievement standard work or have joined the class midway through the year, there are unit standards available.
U.S 6692 Prepare for and construct a Leisure garment.
U.S 6693 Prepare for and construct a non-wearable textile item.
Term 2
A.S 91046 Use design ideas to produce a conceptual design for an outcome to address a brief.
A.S 91067 Use the work of an influential designer to inform design ideas.
Term 3
A.S 91047 Undertake development to make a prototype to address a brief.
Term 4
A.S 91047 Undertake development to make a prototype to address a brief.
Recommended Prior Learning
Successful completion Year 10 Fabric Technology or Head of Technology Department approval.
Pathway
This subject could lead to Tertiary study within Fashion design and Technology. Vocational pathways to consider are sewing, cutting, construction of textiles. Upholstery, design and dressmaking.
